The Chemistry Transfer Program promotes the basics of general chemistry and organic chemistry that will prepare students for potential careers such as chemists, chemistry teachers, clinical research coordinators, food scientists, and chemical technicians.
The program parallels the first two years of a baccalaureate degree program at four-year colleges and universities.
Graduates of the program will be able to:
- Demonstrate the ability to solve basic problems in each of the major areas of chemistry in an efficient and accurate manner.
- Conceptualize, model, and explain chemical processes qualitatively at the molecular level.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of basic laboratory methodologies, data analysis & data interpretation to reach appropriate conclusions.
- Perform laboratory techniques in a safe and accurate manner.
- Demonstrate mastery of the approach and rationale of the scientific method and be able to apply these principles to solve problems.
- Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills, especially to transmit chemical information in a clear and concise manner both independently and collaboratively.
Prerequisites
A passing score on the College鈥檚 mathematics placement test for both Algebra I and Algebra II or and is required for all Chemistry majors. In addition, a high school laboratory chemistry course with a minimum grade of 鈥淐鈥 or and a high school laboratory biology course or with a minimum grade of 鈥淐鈥 are also required.
